Summary

In Chapter 8, narrated by Miles six years prior, Rachel tells Miles that she and her mother will be moving in with Miles and his father in one month. Miles and Rachel both fear the attraction they feel for each other will not end well, but they do not know how to stop it. They agree to keep their relationship a secret and enjoy each other for the seven months they have before they go to college.

In Chapter 9, narrated by Tate in the present, Tate confirms Miles is attracted to her when he kisses her after she stitches up a cut on his hand. After the kiss, however, he asks her never to let him do that again.

Later, at dinner, Tate’s mother asks Miles if he has a girlfriend. Corbin insinuates that Miles is homosexual, an assumption Miles says is incorrect...
