Tyrell
Tyrell is a young African-American teen who lives with his distracted mother and little brother in a homeless shelter. His father has been in jail for the last few years and he has since dropped out of high school. Tyrell is fiercely devoted to his girlfriend, Novisha, and he is determined to stay together no matter what comes their way. His mother grows more restless about money and Tyrell seeks out new ways to make ends meet by throwing an illegal teen party. He is desperate to have a permanent apartment that is clean and belongs to his family rather than the unstable bouncing between shelters that he has grown accustomed to.
Tyrell is searching for love and himself as the novel progresses. He does not understand how to be a man and feels like he is missing out on important lessons while his father is in jail...
