Summary

In Chapter 33, Jasmine gets a job at a local Spanish restaurant and she is excited to have her own money. Tyrell’s mother is rejected from the permanent housing because of her previous conviction for fraud. She is instead offered a place in a job training program for single mothers.

In Chapter 34, the family goes to Novisha’s house for dinner. Novisha’s mother wants to get to know them better. Tyrell finds Novisha’s journal again and reads that she is unsure what to do about a boy named Jamal. They fight and Novisha tells Tyrell to leave her alone.

In Chapter 35, Jasmine tells Tyrell that Mr. Mendoza threatened to call children’s services because she is living alone without Reyna. Tyrell confides in Jasmine that he is worried about his mother taking care of them because she has never even learned...
