Lucena, Spain
Lucena is a small village in Andalusia, Southern Spain. Ibn Rushd retreated there when he was asked to leave the caliph’s court in Cordoba. It had been a Jewish village, but the inhabitants were forbidden by the previous rulers to speak of their Jewish heritage or belief. Dunia and Ibn Rushd lived in a small dark house in Lucena when they were together.
The Bagdad, N.Y.C., U.S.
The Bagdad was the building in Manhattan in which Mr Geronimo occupied the first floor and basement. Its super was Sister Allbee, and on the top floor lived Blue Yasmeen whose story-telling-art was inspired by her dwelling place. Mr Geronimo’s apartment was narrow, and so was the entire building. It is described as being on the least fashionable block in the least fashionable neighborhood.
