The Narrator

The Narrator is never named in the text and very little is known about him. He is very opinionated and occasionally angry about the course of history. He likes to refer to people by certain categories: “white predators,” “white destroyers,” “zombis,” “ostentatious cripples” and so forth. He criticizes both the predators and destroyers for their exploitative and greedy habits, as well as those locals who agree to collaborate with them.

Koranche

King Koranche is the most recent king of the community, descended from a long line of kings. Koranche is greedy and slow-witted. He agrees to collaborate with the white destroyers, selling them human beings in exchange for jewelry and gun powder. Koranche is villainous and traitorous, a representative of all those in power who sold out their fellow Africans to the white colonial powers.
