Summary
It is the day when Preston Borders' case will be re-opened in court. Bosch picks up his daughter at the train station before arriving at court, and sees as all of the main actors arrive: Haller, Cisco, Lance and Kathy Cronyn, and a handcuffed Preston Borders himself. (Terry Spencer is notably absent.) Judge John Houghton enters the courtroom, and Haller immediately proceeds with his motion. After Lance Cronyn and the LAPD's Alex Kennedy object, Houghton goes to his chambers to consult his legal textbooks on the matter. Houghton returns and allows Haller to proceed, which causes Kennedy and Cronyn to awkwardly ask for a 30-day preparation period. (The request is awkward because it would keep their supposedly innocent client, Borders, in jail for 30 more days.)
Haller proposes that he file his motion in a private proffer, away from the eyes of the assembled...
