Summary
Harry Bosch, a veteran detective in the San Fernando Police Department, is working on a case in his makeshift office when he is suddenly visited by three detectives of the Los Angeles Police Department -- where he used to work for decades, and left under bad terms. One of the three detectives is his old professional partner in the LAPD, Lucia Soto. They explain that, due to new DNA evidence, there is reason to believe that a case Bosch had solved decades ago -- landing the defendant on death row -- was in fact committed by a different person. The detectives warn Bosch that the defendant, Preston Borders, will have a hearing in just nine days. They also tell Bosch that Borders is seeking a monetary settlement, and Borders may take Bosch to court if the city of Los Angeles does not agree...
