Two for the Dough opens with Stephanie Plum, the protagonist, and Ranger on a stake out for Kenny Mancuso. Stephanie and Ranger, as bond enforcement agents, wait for Kenny, who missed his court date, to appear at Julia Cenetta's house. Kenny faces charges for accidentally shooting his friend, Moogey Bues, in the knee. He was considered an easy catch, being a first offender.
