Open Book Summary

This chapter begins with the next school day. Bella dreads running into Edward Cullen after his hateful behavior of the day before. However, Edward is absent today. A boy named Mike has begun giving Bella much attention. Although Bella is not attracted to him, she is grateful for feeling included at this new school. After school, when Bella arrives home, she realizes that her father Charlie does not know how to cook, so she takes over the shopping and cooking and eventually the cleanup.

During dinner, Bella asks her father about the Cullen family. Charlie is supportive of the Cullens because they are law abiding, and he mentions the handsomeness of the doctor who is the father of the family.

During the subsequent school days, Bella begins to relax because Edward is not at school. It begins to snow on Friday...
