First Sight Summary
The novel begins with the first-person protagonist, Bella, getting on a plane from Phoenix to a small town called Forks in Washington State. Bella's mother had lived in Forks during her brief marriage and Bella was born there. Bella visits there every summer, staying with her father, Charlie. Bella hesitates to leave her mother, who she feels is irresponsible and immature. Her mom has remarried to a man named Phil, who will take care of her. Bella loves the sunshine in Phoenix. She knows that Forks is mostly cloudy and rainy and she is resigned to that fact of the weather.
