Chapter 13 Summary

Stephanie returns to the office and tells Connie and Lula what she has done at the funeral parlor. As they discuss the Ranger situation, the new girl asks some leading questions. Suddenly uncomfortable, Stephanie leaves. Stephanie drives randomly through town, hoping to flush out Scrog. Stephanie stops at her parents' house and finds Grandma Mazur all excited about Carmen's viewing which she plans to attend with a friend. Stephanie's mother makes Stephanie promise to keep Grandma out of trouble. When Stephanie leaves the house, Ranger calls to tell her Scrog is following her. However, after a short chase, Ranger and his men lose Scrog when he ditches his car in a parking garage and leaves on foot.

Stephanie meets Lula later that evening to try to arrest Scarzolli once again. This time they plan to wait for her outside the store at closing...
