Summary
Chapter 8 brings us to day three of the march. It is rainy, dreary, and difficult. For several days they camp in the rain, waking up muddy, but continue to march to Montgomery, with people joining the march as they go along. Thousands join the march. In Chapter 9, they stop at a Catholic center just outside the city. Lynda feels so relieved to have made it that she cries until she releases all her pent-up fear. By that time, about 10,000 people had joined the marchers. Famous singers from Hollywood and New York, such as Sammy Davis Jr. and Nina Simone, come down and put on a show.
On March 25, there were more than 25,000 gathered at the capital, singing and marching. Leaders like Dr. King speak to the crowd and Lynda makes sure to shout up at the window of the capital building, hoping Governor Wallace...
