Chapter 11, The Beach of Bones Summary
The first part of the chapter is written in diary form as Caroline writes about Rod leaving with Roy to find a better defensible place for the colony to live. Caroline writes about things that happen in the settlement during Rod's absence, including a few marriages, the news that one of the married girls is possibly pregnant, and the fact that the settlement has come to the realization that Rod and Roy have died on their mission.
As the colony continues to grow and move toward modern civilization, Rod and Roy begin following the river downstream. They find a set of small caves where several girls are living, but nothing big enough to support the whole colony. When it is time to turn around, they decide to continue on in hopes of finding something better...
