The Classroom Summary
Albom and Schwartz visit for several hours. During that time, the phone rings again and again with people wanting to talk with Schwartz. He simply has his nurse take messages so that his time with Albom is not interrupted. Albom is envious of all the friends Schwartz seems to have and wonders what's become of his own college friends.
Schwartz claims that people find him more interesting now that he is dying. Albom protests that's not the case, but Schwartz insists. "I'm on the last great journey here - and people want me to tell them what to pack (pg. 33)." Throughout the entire visit, Albom is astonished that Schwartz has managed, despite his illness, to remain the same person Albom so fondly remembers, especially when Albom himself has changed so drastically from the person he wanted to be.
