Summary
In Chapter 3 of “Bonds”, Benjamin and Helen married after a short engagement. They spent their two week long honeymoon in the mansion on Fifth Avenue as it “was sufficiently alien to both of them to make it a bit of a holiday” (59). After the war ended, Helen contacted the doctors at the clinic in Switzerland to inquire after her father’s health and learned that he had run away shortly after his admittance; the staff was unable to ascertain his whereabouts. Helen did not tell her mother the news in order to test Mrs. Brevoort’s interest in her husband. She never inquired about his health. After his marriage to Helen, Mr. Rask’s fortunes continued to grow, and he was lauded as a supernatural talent in the financial industry.
