Summary
In Chapter 7, “Interview Exclusive” (I), Colman continues to talk to a reporter. Colman remembers the first time he brought a girlfriend home to meet his parents. He was 15 or 16 years old. The girlfriend was named Ruth, but everyone called her Melanie. Joss seemed to act strangely around Melanie, and he warned Colman about the dangerous of unprotected sex. Joss offered to give Melanie trumpet lessons, and Colman thought that Joss was trying to interfere with Colman and Melanie’s relationship somehow. The reporter interviewing Colman is named Sophie Stones. She flatters and cajoles Colman to make him talk more. Sophie uses female pronouns when referring to Joss.
