Part 3 Chapter 10 Summary
Truman had been in office for only a few months when he had to travel to Germany to meet with Churchill and Stalin in a Berlin suburb. Stalin was a day late. Arriving in Germany, Harry was amazed at the war's devastation of the country. Even the house where he stayed was not in good condition.
Churchill and Roosevelt had been very compatible. They had a lot in common and both had a tremendous command of the English language. Truman's style was totally different, and many wondered how he would meet this challenge. Yet the new president made a strong impression on Churchill from the start.
