Summary
Delia answered the phone and assumed it was Caserta when she was met with silence yet again. She hung up and called Uncle Filippo, who was clearly uninterested in talking to her. He had spoken to Caserta and his opinion had completely changed; he now regarded his old enemy well. He asked Delia why she told the family that Amalia had been cheating on her father with Caserta when the couple was not together back then. Delia replied that they should not have listened to a five-year-old child. Then she hung up the phone.
Delia decided to leave the house. She traveled throughout the town, looking over her shoulder and expecting to see Caserta following her. She recognized places from her childhood, including her old childhood home, where her father still lived.
Delia recalled her father’s Gypsy paintings. He had stopped commissioning portraits...
