Summary
The Maafa sinks down, returning to the depths of the Burning Sea. The survivors--people and animals--who had been trapped within the giant ship's planks are now free--all cheer. The giant tear in the sky bathes the beaches and the coastline of the Golden Crescent in a red-orange light. The fire in the sea have gone out; Nyame's city burns brightly, its shiny ivory towers looking grand again. Tristan floats on a piece of debris. The iron monster army disappeared along with the Maafa. Tristan knows he should feel relief and joy, but instead, all he feels is rage for some reason. Limp bodies litter the beach. They are all captives released from the hull and decks of the Maafa. Many of them Gum Baby recognizes. Some of them have been missing for months. Tristan's heart lifts at the sight of John Henry towering...
