Whitney Summary
Whitney has a difficult time living up to the standards set by her sister, Kyra. Kyra is more beautiful, intelligent, and talented than Whitney. Kyra wants to study International Relations; Whitney wants to be an interior decorator. They live at the beach in California, with their father, an investment broker. He usually stays in San Francisco four nights a week where he works, but comes home whenever he can. He is much more caring toward Whitney than his wife is.
Whitney is fifteen, and in love with a boy named Lucas. While they haven't had sex yet, they've come close. She meets him in choir the year before the book begins. She also smokes weed with him, and goes for long drives in his car.
