Armand Gamache
Armand Gamache is the head of homicide for the Sûreté du Québec. He attends the opening of Clara’s art show because he and his wife are friends of Clara and Peter. Later, Gamache is called to Three Pines to investigate Lillian’s murder.
Even though Gamache has spent most of his life investigating murders, he still holds the belief that people are capable of change. For instance, he believes Lillian was trying to make amends for things she had done in her past. However, she had not considered that attempts to make amends would open old wounds.
Gamache correctly determines that it was Fortin who murdered Lillian. He identifies Fortin during a dinner party at Clara’s house, a scene reminiscent of the reveal of the identity of a murderer in an Agatha Christie novel.
