Summary
In Chapter 18, Suzanne told Gamache she was not sure if Lillian came to Three Pines in an attempt to repair prior damage she had done or to cause more damage. When Gamache showed Suzanne the AA book Lillian had been reading and the sections she had highlighted, Suzanne said it appeared Lillian was on step nine. Suzanne explained that in step nine, the alcoholic was to make amends to people he had hurt in the past except in the case when those amends might cause pain.
Suzanne admitted that she knew Lillian when Lillian was still working for La Presse. She stayed away from Lillian because of her reputation.
