Summary
In Chapter 6, Peter was hiding in his studio, avoiding the phone calls congratulating Clara. He wondered how Clara’s portraits could be considered masterpieces while it appeared his meticulous works were not appreciated at all.
Meanwhile, Gamache and Beauvoir questioned Paulette and Normand, a pair of artists who had been at Clara’s show and the afterparty. They admitted they came to the show not because they liked Clara or her art, but because they wanted to network with the dealers. They told Gamache that Dennis Fortin, a gallery owner was there. Paulette explained it was surprising Fortin had been invited after what he did to Clara. She did not describe what Fortin had done to Clara.
Paulette recognized Lillian. She had believed they were friends when Paulette was a beginning artist, but Lillian had interfered in her relationship with Norman by spreading...
