Chapters 23-25 Summary
Chapter 23:
Williams makes an appointment with Bruce Barnes before visiting the Chicago office of Global Weekly. Williams finds that Lucinda Washington's former assistant had simply assumed Washington's old post. Williams tells the woman that she should not switch offices just yet and he will make an announcement about the new bureau chief. Williams spends time in Washington's old office, interviewing key personnel.
Late in the day, Williams learns that there is a live report on CNN from the United Nations. Carpathia has been elected as the new Secretary-General at the UN. According to the reports, Carpathia is reluctant to take the post. Reporters interview the outgoing Secretary-General, who insists he would have stepped down even if Carpathia had not accepted the position.
