Summary
In Atkinson, Nebraska, Ken meets Cindy Myers, a "red-state radical" who is opposed to the pipeline because of its threat to groundwater in the Great Plains. She tells Ken about an upcoming hearing and rally in Albion, Nebraska and Ken resolves to walk there in time to participate. In Petersburg, just 12 miles from Albion, Ken is approached by a sheriff who insists on driving him out of the county because there have been two recent break-ins. Though he cannot prove anything against Ken, he is determined to escort him out of the area, which would take him past Albion. Ken protests and finally manages to convince a second officer to drop him off in Albion instead.
At the event in Albion, Ken is recognized and celebrated as "the walker," as Cindy had posted about his journey on Facebook (181). At the protest, he meets...
