Chapters 11 through 13 Summary

Julius Schiller, Under Secretary for Political Affairs, is playing poker with four men. Soviet Deputy Chief of Mission Aleksey Korolenko, Special Assistant to the President Dale Nichols, Senator George Pitt and Soviet Embassy's Special Advisor on American Affiars Dale Vyhousky are on Schiller's yacht when Schiller is called to the phone. He returns with the news that the plane with the VIPs, including Hala Kamil, has gone down. The five talk about the state of affairs in Mexico and Egypt, and what would happen if Hala Kamil were among those killed in the crash. It's Nichols who says that the United States will not interfere with a Middle Eastern situation for the sake of oil, but will do home exploration and look to Mexico.
