Summary

In Part XV, Joe moved through the house, discovering the entire thing turned backwards. Even the “letters and pictures” in the Knockout were opposite (119). He continued looking around, but there was no one there but him. When he returned to the mirror and touched his stone to it, he traveled through it and back to the first house. Everything was in its usual place. He touched the stone to the mirror again, returning to the backwards house. However, when he moved in the mirror, he noticed the opposite hand moved when he moved his hand. Then he struck the glass with the stone and it shattered. All he could see was “emptiness” (121).
