Summary
The narrator's ex-lover, Katy, said she wanted to be known as the Demon Lover, "the one we desire even when we know it is not us she wants, but our souls" (109). The narrator is asleep when Katy returns and wakes up the narrator. The narrator says that most of her ghosts are not so persistent in her mind, but Katy "reaches for me" (109). Katy overdosed and died three years ago. Katy brings a joint and she and the narrator smoke it. The narrator wants to have sex with Katy, thinking it would be easy, even though "she was never easy" when she was alive (110). They talk about if the joint is mashed pecan. Katy tells the narrator about a time when she got sick after getting stoned, and the narrator tells Katy about when she threw up on the narrator's only clean shirt...
