Summary
Skidmarks, Section 2 – When Christina moved in, the author writes, she and Robin tried to set down some firm ground rules, including allowing her to stay only for a few weeks before moving into a shelter with support systems that could help her find a job, stay clear of drugs, and live a healthier life. They also tried to get her onto a regular routine, and woke her up early every morning by playing a Dolly Parton song, “Little Sparrow,” at top volume. During a particularly difficult conversation, and as they struggled to reassure her that they still loved her, Christina became more and more upset, eventually ending the conversation. “I had no idea how to parent in this moment,” the author comments, “and she knew it” (207).
