Summary
In Chapter 27, Gifty recalls Nana attracting attention and esteem for his basketball skills. The Chin Chin Man called from Ghana and told the family he was remarrying. At one of Nana's games, Gifty saw him get injured, falling to the ground and clutching his ankle. At the emergency room, the doctor said he had torn ligaments and wrote him a prescription for pain medication.
In Chapter 28, at the lab, Gifty asked Han if he had ever tried Ensure. She then went to the grocery store to buy some. When she returned with the Ensure, she told Han that Nana died from an overdose. She remembers asking Nana why he liked being high and he responded that it felt like it emptied his mind “in a good way” (145).
