Chapter 31 Summary
The second-string running back for Notre Dame is a not-so-bright boy named David Lee. He has not done well during the first half of the game, and, while going back to the locker room for half-time, he is pulled off the field by a black security guard who just happens to be Viceroy Wilson. He offers Lee a thousand dollars for his helmet and uniform. When Lee stalls, Viceroy gives him another thousand and the deal is made. Lee goes back to the locker room nude and tells the coach he was robbed.
The half-time show is to consist of singing, dancing, and, of course, the ever present fireworks. It is raining fairly hard, but the show continues. Towards the end of the pageantry, the M. C. calls the crowd's attention to the east end of the field and introduces the Orange Bowl...
