Point of View
Cynthia Lord tells her novel Touch Blue in the first-person limited-omniscient perspective from the point of view of main character, Tess. The story is about Tess’s initial efforts to save the school on her island, and later, about her efforts to essentially save Aaron. Because of this, it is only natural that Tess should tell the story, as she is the one who personally experiences it. Readers are, therefore, given an intimate glimpse into Tess’s innermost thoughts and feelings regarding everything going on, especially when it comes to her attempts to care for, and get Aaron to open up. As such, readers have a privileged insight into Tess’s character, but do not have the same insight into Aaron because Aaron is not telling the story.
