Summary
In Chapter 11, Tess brings Aaron over to Mrs. Coomb’s to pick up sheet music for the Fourth of July picnic. They then go into the church parish hall when Aaron learns there is a piano there that can be played. It is out of tune. Tess explains the piano only gets played during special events like the Christmas party. Aaron explains that his grandmother taught him how to play, and that Home Number One had a keyboard, but no privacy. Aaron goes on to explain he received his trumpet as a Christmas gift when he was eight while in foster care. Aaron explains his mom has never heard him play, and that he is never able to write to her because he always thinks it comes out sounding angry or wrong.
