Summary
Mary’s shock at her grandmother’s accusations only grew. She was heartbroken that the only thing that seemed to matter was how poor her father was at the time of his death. Mary gives birth to a baby named William with her female life partner, and the baby soon falls ill. The baby recovered, and Mary dropped the issue of a possible lawsuit to receive her inheritance.
