Point of View

The point of view of Tomcat in Love is primarily first person, told through the perspective of Thomas. Thomas is constantly trying to defend himself to the reader, asserting the view that he is not at fault for any transgressions and is not a bad guy. He dismisses his inappropriate behavior with women as innocent flirtation, rather than describing them for what they really are –unwarranted instances of clumsy groping. He truly believes that he loves all women and is constantly beguiled by them. He ogles every woman that he crosses paths with and relishes every casual physical contact, even if it is something as small as his knee brushing up against another woman’s knee. He is not a reliable narrator as he is motivated by only his own selfish needs.
