Owago
Owago is Thomas's fictional hometown in Minnesota. This is where he grew up and where he has all of his childhood experiences. It is also where he meets Mrs. Kooshof later on in life. Herbie and Lorna Sue return to Owago for the fourth of July and this is when Thomas plans on manufacturing the bombs. In the beginning of the novel, 7 year old Thomas is playing with a toy wooden airplane, pretending to bomb Herbie and Lorna Sue’s house. As an adult, Lorna Sue takes Thomas’s homemade bombs to her home and actually threatens to detonate them. When Lorna Sue returns to her hometown, she reverts back to the childlike behavior of her past.
