Summary

Thomas begins his plots for revenge on Herbie, Lorna Sue and the tycoon. He is called into a meeting at the university president’s office where he sees Toni and Megan report him for sexual harassment and demand his resignation. Thomas loses his tenure and agrees to vacate the university and they will not publicly reveal the details of his termination.

He has dinner with two secretaries from the university. They discuss his resignation, sex, and at one point, Thomas “inadvertently” puts his hand between one of the ladies’ legs (226). As Thomas pays for the expensive dinner, he realizes his efforts have resulted in the following: “Seventeen honors thesis. A failed marriage. A career in ruins” (228).

Thomas purchases the engagement ring for Mrs. Kooshof. Thomas addresses the female audience member as “you” in a long soliloquy (236). She is 49 years old and lives alone. After...
