Summary
As a last dispatch effort to save their relationship, Thomas proposes to Mrs. Kooshof. She accepts saying that she will divorce her husband as long as Thomas never returns to Tampa.
Later that day, a distraught Toni tells Thomas that her roommate, Megan, found out he was writing her thesis and is threatening to turn them both into the school. In exchange for her silence, Thomas agrees to write Megan's thesis as well.
Mrs. Kooshof prepares divorce papers with her lawyer, puts her house up for sale, selects her own engagement ring, and purchases a new telephone. Thomas becomes stuck in a string of calls one after another. The first call is from the tycoon, who says Lorna Sue is divorcing him and blames Thomas.
