Farm
The farm that Lara and her family run is symbolic of the present. Throughout the entirety of the novel, Lara, her daughters, and her husband are situated in this location. They have found themselves here because of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. Because their lives have become so insular, Lara finds herself taking note of all the present has to offer her. With her daughters back at home, she is beginning to realize how much the farm has given them and how happy this location has made them in the past, and from how much it is protecting them in the present.
