Summary

In Chapter 13, before one of their performances, Uncle Wallace, or Albert Long, told Lara he still got scared going on stage although he had played the Stage Manager many times (175). Lara comforted him. He was the Stage Manager and she was Emily. Although she was not as talented as people believed, she was a good Emily.

Because Albert was an alcoholic, the actors worried about him. When he disappeared during intermission, Lara “tried to find him” (177). He reappeared when “the call came for places” (178). During the third act, Albert got sick. When the curtain fell, he lurched forward and blood “poured from his mouth” (179). He was taken to the hospital. Many feared he would not survive.
