Summary

In Chapter 9, Lara and Duke lay on the grass and discussed the play. Although their schedule included “little free time,” they made use of what they had (119). Meanwhile, Lara grew closer with both Duke and Pallace. Pallace was also Lara’s understudy for the next play, Fool for Love. Lara also met Sebastian when he visited Duke.

The girls are eager to learn about Sebastian. Emily answers many of their questions, as she spent years researching Duke and his family. She reveals that Duke had a younger sister who died “when she was four” (125). Lara is shocked, as Duke never mentioned her. She understands how little she knew about him.

When Duke took Sebastian to his room, Lara realized she had never seen it. Duke was always at her place. Shortly thereafter, Pallace developed an interest in Sebastian.
