Summary
The novel returns to the present day first person narration. Eleanor is on the ground, surrounded by worried witnesses to the accident. While the others are distracted, Eleanor flees with Timby and heads to Galer Street School to return the keys with the name “Delphine” on the keyring. Eleanor accidentally drops her own keys into a locked donation box and has to break the box in order to swap her key set with Delphine’s mom’s keys. Timby catches her doing it.
In the car, Eleanor tries to explain her subconscious urge to steal the keys and describes the premise of Looper Wash to Timby. She suggests they watch it together. They are interrupted by Sydney Madsen, who exclaims how worried she was upon listening to all the messages from Eleanor. She had spent all day trying to find Eleanor and is upset...
