Summary
In Chapter Nine, Miranda went up to the attic to look through the dollhouse windows. For the first time, she saw Sigmund through the window. Lucinda came into the room, smelling like marigold perfume, and argued with her husband about firing the servants because it would cut down on her personal time. He told her that she should work harder as a housewife, but she said she wanted to work as a lawyer or in business. He laughed at her and told her that was impossible, so she ordered the maid to force Dorothy to eat her tomatoes—even though Dorothy got sick whenever she ate tomatoes. Sigmund comforted Dorothy and sent Lucinda to bed, and Dorothy said she was afraid that her father would not be there in the morning. Miranda started to wonder if the past could impact the present.
