The power of the imagination
The book is built on the idea that the imagination has tremendous power. The BookWorld is in existence, and the telling of stories works because of the reader's ability to imagine. We see this take place in many instances in the novel, such as the existence of an idea room in every book that contains energy. That energy is an idea that can be imagined by a reader. Imagination is also where sympathy comes from. The reader can see Thursday's relationship to fictional characters is just as strong as her feeling for her friends in the real world.
