Chapters 52-57 Summary
In chapter 52, Sloane suggests that they assume no one survived the flood, and they begin thinking about their own situation. The flood has blocked their only way out; therefore, they must stay put for a week or more. There is no reason why they should not open the Sun Kiva and get back to work. Roscoe accuses Sloane of lying about the weather report and sending Nora and the others to their death. Roscoe then says that Sloane set them all up so that she could take credit for the contents of the Sun Kiva. In chapter 53, Sloane, Black, and Bonarotti make their way to the Sun Kiva. Sloane, who is now carrying a gun, instructs Black and Bonarotti to begin excavating the kiva's entrance. The entrance is covered in stones. When the stones are removed there is a sealed doorway...
