Chapters 30-35 Summary
In chapter 30, Sloane apologizes to Nora as they enter the city to open the kiva. Nora allows Sloane to enter the kiva first. Nora is drawn to the mural on the walls, as well as the pottery and skulls on the floor. As Nora explores, she patiently explains to the others that this is clearly a Rain Kiva and that there was most likely a Sun Kiva in the city at some point. Smithback notices the overwhelming amount of turquoise in the kiva and Nora says that turquoise was clearly the jewel of choice to the people who worshiped at the Rain Kiva. Black suggests that gold is the jewel of choice for the Sun Kiva, causing excitement among the others even as Nora attempts to dissuade this impression.
