Chapters 13-18 Summary
In chapter 13, the expedition reaches the marina in Page and Nora sees a limo pull up. At first Nora is concerned this might be Sloane Goddard, but it turns out to be Bill Smithback. Smithback is a celebrity writer and recognized by the tourists. Nora grabs him just as he begins to talk about the expedition. After dealing with Smithback, Nora helps load the barge with the horse trailers and their gear. As soon as they are loaded, Nora orders the captain to push off even though Sloane Goddard has not arrived. In chapter 14, the members of the expedition begin to get to know one another as they motor down the lake. As they arrive at their destination a short time later, they discover the beach is clogged with debris so they can't land the boat. Nora insists they swim across...
