Importance: This quote establishes early on how the job of both skip tracer and PSF should not be something that one enjoys. However, the pay off for this moment does not come until "Sparks Rise" when the reader meets Tildon. As a camp counselor, Tildon is a monster in every sense of the world. He is a man they continue to hire because he is one of the few who wants to keep his job despite the torture of those in the camps. While Gabe does come to understand what Hutch means over the course of Gabe’s journey, Tildon is the example that the reader gets that links the two stories together.
