Chapter 5 Summary

Morelli is at Stephanie's front door. Stephanie believes Morelli is there to arrest her, so she slips out the building through a back door. Lula drives Stephanie to a local diner where she meets Ranger. Stephanie tells Ranger what took place the night before. Stephanie has learned that the intruder was a drug dealer named Anders. Ranger wonders if Mo shot Anders, but Stephanie cannot believe Mo would do such a thing. However, Stephanie needs to know who did shoot Anders so she asks Ranger to make a few inquiries. Before he goes, Ranger gives Stephanie back the gun she hid the night before and asked him to retrieve.

At the office, Connie gives Stephanie the file on a new failure to appear. The man, Leroy Watkins, lives with a friend of Lula's, so Stephanie takes Lula with her. They go to the...
