Summary

In Chapter 21, Leah, a fellow prisoner, tells Cibi that she saw Magda at Auschwitz. Cibi decides not to tell Livi that Magda is in the camp until she can find their sister. She sneaks into the block where Magda is being held, under the pretenses of delivering a package, and finds her sister. Cibi knows that all three sisters need to be together, and she smuggles Magda into Birkenau and persuades the tattooist to ink her sister’s arm. A few days later, Livi sees her mother and grandfather disembarking a train. She heralds her sister and Cibi attempts, unsuccessfully, to save her family members from the gas chamber.

Christmas arrives in Chapter 22 amongst the rumors that Russian forces are closing in on the Nazis. The three sisters continue to survive the abject torture within the camp by reminiscing about their lives...
